Car detailing tips to make your ride shine again after CNY

After the Lunar New Year festivities and the wear and tear on your car’s interior, as well as the dirt and dullness on the paintwork due to the rain, it’s time to restore your car’s shine. Thankfully, the earlier grooming and protective layers will make this task easier. Here’s a guide on how to proceed with the post-CNY detailing process.

Foam it up

To make the post-CNY detailing easier, start by applying a generous layer of snow foam to your car. This foam will help loosen contaminants and make them easier to rinse off without scratching the surface. Don’t forget to apply the foam to the wheels and tires as well, unless heavy brake dust requires a specific wheel cleaner. Allow the foam to sit until it’s almost dry, and then thoroughly rinse your car to remove the foam and loosened dirt.

Is it time to clay?

After rinsing and drying your car, check the paintwork for any rough patches or imperfections. If you feel any, it may be necessary to clay the surface before proceeding with polishing or waxing. However, if the paint feels smooth and you’re confident in your washing skills, you can skip this step. Don’t feel pressured to achieve a perfect finish, as most car owners don’t have the same level of expertise as detailing enthusiasts. Focus on maintaining a clean and presentable appearance.

Wax if needed

If your car’s paintwork still looks glossy and feels smooth after washing, there’s no need to apply more wax or sealant at the moment. The existing layer of protection appears to be intact, as evidenced by the water beading and rolling off the body panels during rinsing. Applying additional product won’t make your car shinier, as the paint can only absorb and hold a limited amount. Resist the temptation to add more and focus on maintaining the existing protection for now.

The interior is important

Shift your attention to the interior of your car for a thorough cleaning. Vacuum the seats and floor mats, removing any trash from the cup holders, and declutter the trunk. Be on the lookout for crumbs and spills, cleaning them promptly to prevent attracting pests. Use wet wipes, preferably with alcohol, for effective cleaning. Pay attention to the dashboard, wiping it down and applying a protective product if necessary. Use a leather cleaner for the seats. Take a moment to appreciate your hard work and enjoy a clean and refreshed car. With any luck, you won’t need to clean it again for a while.
